Research Interests
We research on NMR methodology. Some topics that have interested us recently are:
(a) Adiabatic Pulses in NMR: Stimulated Raman adiabatic passage is a counter-intuitive technique for inversion of population in three level systems. We have extended this method to the NMR regime and experimentally demonstrated its utility for the inversion of population in scalar coupled spin systems in solution.
(b) Cross Correlated Relaxation: Cross correlated relaxation studies in liquids is a convenient route to the determination of the chemical shift anisotropy tensor in liquids. We have used this in combination with ab-initio electronic structure calculations to study the ortho effect in a series of ortho fluoro benzenes.
(c) Heteronuclear decoupling in solids: High resolution NMR in solids requires the use of heteronuclear decoupling. We have introduced recently a variant of two-pulse phase modulated (TPPM) decoupling with performance characteristics better than other known sequences.
